Sustainability

At Via Wines, we aim to protect the environment at every stage of the process. Authenticity, sustainability and harmony are the cornerstones of our processes and our team, through education and training, makes that vision a reality. We were the third vineyard in Chile to earn certification under the Chilean wine industry’s sustainability code. Understanding sustainability to be the convergence of environmentally friendly, socially equitable and economically viable production, the code divides the needs of the winemaking industry into three areas: green area (vineyards), red area (winery) and orange area (community).

Vineyards

Our phytosanitary programs use only green- and blue-coded products. We have fertilization plans that minimize interference with both the vines and the habitat. In the same spirit, we plant between rows to avoid soil erosion, and provide ongoing training to the staff who perform these tasks in the vineyard.

Winery

In the winery, we efficiently manage all types of solid waste, reusing skins and stems in the field. We also have a modern liquid waste treatment plan. The clean production protocols that we uphold include constant savings in electricity and water consumption, and ongoing training for our technical team. We also favour paper and label suppliers with a low environmental impact. Finally, we raise awareness about saving energy and water and protecting the environment.

Community

We provide our employees with ongoing training on issues related to their line of work and we invite their families to participate through winery visits. Via Wines builds community ties by supporting the work of craftspeople and local sports initiatives as well as collaborating with Chilean state institutions, including the energy ministry and the national prison service. We also have work agreements with schools at the high school and higher education levels, through Centro Educativo Salesianos de Talca and Universidad de Talca, respectively.
