Casablanca Valley

Tapihue Vineyard

Casablanca is perhaps the most outstanding cold-climate valley in Chile: it is famous for the production of white varieties and Pinot Noir.  It is situated 80 km to the north-west of Santiago and at a short distance from the Pacific Ocean.

Climate

The influence of the Pacific Ocean on our Tapihue Vineyard, especially that of the Humboldt Current (the Antarctic current that runs up the Chilean coast, moderating the temperatures) results in a layer of mist at dawn and fresh breezes from midday onwards, which allow the freshness and acidity of the grapes to be maintained during the ripening process.

Soil

The Tapihue Vineyard has a typically granitic soil with a loamy-clayey texture and little organic content. In some places- where our Pinot Noirs are planted –there are seams of quartz. This adds a unique mineral quality and contributes to the fruit’s impeccable ripeness.

Area under vine: 46 hectares

Average rainfall: 450 mm per year.
