Maule Valley

San Rafael Vineyard

The Maule Valley is located 260 km south of Santiago.  It is held to be the valley with most tradition in terms of vine growing and wine production, due to its history and the fact that 43% of the country’s total cultivated area is concentrated there. It also displays the greatest geographical diversity.

Climate

The climate is Mediterranean, greatly influenced by the cold night wind blowing down from the Andes Mountains. This effect increases the daily thermal oscillation and reduces the maximum temperatures, thereby helping the fruit to ripen slowly and in good conditions.

Soil

Its gentle slopes consist of sedimentary soils of volcanic origin. They are of medium depth and of loamy clay at both surface level and depth, with a low percentage of organic matter.

Area under vine: 546 hectares.

Average rainfall: 750 mm per year.

VARIETIES

Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Syrah, Carmenere, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Merlot.
